[Episode 10] (Finale) A 40-Something Mom's '1-Month Miracle' and Future Challenges

Thoroughly enforcing the "rules for controlling AI" and repeating the gritty days of copy-pasting and refactoring. At the end of it all, TubeLingo's "Comment Section Learning Feature" finally started working exactly as I envisioned inside my computer.

The emotion of that moment cannot be expressed in words.

Slang from overseas youth, slightly sarcastic jokes, and numerous living expressions that never appear in textbooks. The AI beautifully translates them and carefully explains the culture and context behind them.

"This is it! This is what I've wanted all along!"

It was the moment when a practical English learning tool that I truly wanted to use, that I genuinely found fun, finally took shape by my own hands.

Only 1 Month, But What a Month

Looking back, it was the morning of January 10th. Pushed by the words, "Ideas disappear if you don't act on them within 5 minutes," I dove into the world of AI with zero technical skills.

Days of being so moved by magical automatic generation that I pulled an all-nighter for the first time in decades, pouring hundreds of dollars in tuition fees down the drain, agonizing for 24 hours over the name of a single API key, and tasting despair as my code was arbitrarily deleted. It was a short but incredibly dense and turbulent month.

But every time I failed and hit a wall, I thought, "So what should I do now?" It was precisely because I gave up on getting YouTube scripts that I was able to arrive at this absolute favorite feature (comment section learning). Things don't always go as planned, but if you don't run away and instead strategize, a more interesting path will surely open up.

The True Reason I Write This Blog

It was only a period of a little over a month, but I desperately wanted to leave a record of the "exciting experience" I gained here before I forgot it. And I wanted to deliver real information to people who are thinking of trying AI even a little bit from now on, showing them, "There are failures like this, but if you don't give up, it will absolutely work out." That is one of the reasons I wrote this series.

But the biggest reason lies elsewhere. It is a message to my children.

When my kids grow up someday, I want them to read this record. I want them to know, "Mom, in her 40s, suddenly dove into a world of incomprehensible technology one day, pulling all-nighters and taking on such a crazy challenge."

"If Mom could do it, then you guys can take on any challenge, no matter what it is or how old you get."

I want them to believe in their own potential and keep taking on new things. This blog is also a love letter from me to my future children.

The Never-Ending Challenge and the Dream I Want to Fulfill

My challenge does not end here. For TubeLingo, which has become a portal for language learning, there is still an important dream I want to fulfill.

My children who speak Japanese, and my father who speaks Korean. I hope that the day will come when the language difference, which has been a barrier preventing them from conversing deeply until now, can be overcome. I hope they can learn each other's language through this service, connect their hearts, and laugh together.

The name "TubeLingo" contains my prayer that it will become a bridge (Tube) connecting people through language (Lingo).

This small step I took together with AI, my ultimate partner, when I was a nobody. I believe that someday, it will open the doors to the world for myself and my loved ones.

Tomorrow, too, I will open my computer and talk to Gemini. "Now, which part should we make interesting today?"

🍳 [Today's AI Development Recipe]

  • Technical Difficulty: ⭐☆☆☆☆ (The mindset to run through to the end)

In this final episode, I present the "mindset to complete development" to all challengers.

1. What is an "MVP (Minimum Viable Product)"?

It means not stuffing in perfect features thinking "I want this and that too," but rather creating just the "feature (value) you want most" in a form that works for now.

2. How did I do it?

I initially got stuck in a quagmire aiming for a perfect system to "translate all YouTube subtitles." However, I decisively gave that up halfway through and poured all my energy into a single feature (MVP) that I personally found most interesting: "analyzing the comments section."

Actual Process: I stopped wasting time on what I couldn't do, and made my goal smaller and sharper, telling the AI, "Instead of subtitles, just read the text of the comments and explain the slang." As a result, that gave birth to the best feature.

3. To Our Readers

If you think "I have to make something perfect," you will get frustrated when you hit a wall. First, try building the minimum feature (MVP) with AI, thinking, "Just this one thing, I want to make it work!" The emotion you feel the moment it works will become the greatest energy for your next challenge!
